In 2006, nearly 32,000 New Yorkers were busted for possessing marijuana -- 87 percent of whom were either black or Hispanic, despite equal drug use among blacks and whites.

Here are photos of one of those arrests. Eight cops, both plainclothes and in uniform, are making this arrest on Gay St. in the West Village. Is this the best use of police officers' time? Will this have an impact on marijuana use in the city? Is this how we want our tax-dollars spent?

I got arrested in jersey and they called 6 cops on me.....despite being very cooperative and the like.

And I thought it was only a citation in NYC? Not an arrest.

Yeah the police are a joke, they sent all the police in my town to arrest me not so long ago. Hadnt even been [caught] doing anything wrong.

where i live, there are few white people, but all of those few are very backwoods, uneducated, rednecks, as are the majority of the cops. one of these rednecks beats his wife all the time... every once in a while they might eventually send 1 car with 1 cop to their house..

if me or anyone else is even suspected of so much as a jay, 3-4 cop cars, 2 cops per car and dogs and usually an undercover SUV with detectives are on the scene in less than 10 minutes...
