    Xenon lights

has anybody ever tried using Xenon lights for their grow? Seems like they could be useful for their low power consumption. I have never heard of anybody using them and was wondering if it is because they suck? They come in 3000K and 6000k color temps and have a CRI of 100, how could this be bad?

Well, projectors use xenon arc lamps, and their bulbs are ridiculously expensive. Like $200 just for the bulb. That alone would be prohibitive, but their spectrum is also not ideal for plant growth. They release a lot of light at UV, near-infrared, and green frequencies, which are essentially wasted by plants. Plus, the power regulation for a xenon bulb is pretty expensive and elaborate and will cost a lot more than a HPS/MH ballast. Xenon bulbs do have low-ish power consumption, but it's no better than other HID lighting, like HPS or MH.

I just saw a bunch of under the cabinet xenon lights , 20 watts per light, and they only cost about $20 for 3. They're supposed to be a lot cooler than other lights too in terms of being able to touch them. The glass that covers them is uv protected so that wouldn't be a problem and you just plug it in like a normal light so wiring isn't an issue.

I was thinking of getting a bunch of them since then I could have light all over the place in different areas of the cabinet.

dont know if you know this or not but xenon bulbs are considered HIDs. Just on the smaller side.
