Doesn't miracle grow have nitrogen and other things in the soil already on time release? Have you poisoned it?

If it is indeed the peat causing this issue. You can simply add lime to the mix to help neutralize the alkaline levels. I used to add peat to my soil mix, and about a cup of lime to help balance the PH. But to be honest, it makes more sense to just not use peat. I used because thats what bog used. And Bog also said to add lime to neutralize soil PH, but is the peat really that beneficial? NO its not so I just stopped using it! Peat helps retain water by the way, the exact opposite of adding perlite. so if your needing to add perlite to help drainage. Then you dont need to add peat to the mix. I think peat is better used out doors where water retention is a n issue. laterz..
