I probably live in one of the most dangerous big cities in the world, Rio de Janeiro.

It's surrounded by favelas (slums), inhabited by the poorer classes and controlled by either druglords or ex-policemen (milĂ*cias). There's a lot of rivalry and competition and the result are endless shootouts throughout the city. Innocent people are killed every day. The police earn a ridiculous amount of money for their work, which creates widespread corruption. The poor don't rob the rich because they're evil, it's because they have no fucking chance at all. Children begging for money on the streets all the time, and the money goes to their lazy bum parents who sniff glue all day.

I'm probably friends with lots of criminals and murderers. While weed smokers usually have a lighter punishment, you can get away with pretty much anything provided you have enough money. And you absolutely need to have the right connections if you want GOOD weed... Or risk your life trying to get it in the slums... There's a wild new Brazilian movie out there called "Elite Troop", methinks it's a bit more realistic than "City of God".

This place is a fucking mess. I'd like to go live in Oz or Canada after I graduate.
