You completely missed my point. I never in any way said the world was "this happy place were every one is nice to each other and there is no crime." My point is that there would be a lot less crime in the US and we all (including you) would be safer if the government put some serious effort into making it harder for criminals and future criminals to get a hold of guns. The thing is, one of the best ways to accomplish this would be to not allow ANY civilians to buy guns. This might be a hard concept to wrap your head around, but think about it I mean, if the government decided not to allow civilians to purchase firearms and made it a priority to keep firearms off the streets (maybe by diverting funds from being used keeping weed of the streets, and also by introducing MUCH stiffer punishments for buying/selling and possessing firearms), it would be WAY harder for the wrong element to procure guns, period. If it cost five grand, let's say, for some potential criminal to buy a gun on the street instead of a couple hundred bucks, and he knew he'd be facing a ridiculously long jail sentence if he was caught possessing or selling guns, it's not hard to comprehend the fact that far fewer "bad guys" would have guns. Just imagine if, all of a sudden the government decided that possession of any more than a gram of marijuana would result in the death penalty, and they were bringing all the troops back from Iraq to enforce the new laws (horrible to imagine, I know, but hear me out). I'm pretty sure the pot-smoking percentage of the nation's population would probably dwindle pretty close to zero. The same thing would happen if we gave gun possession/sale the same treatment, and I don't think you can argue that this country wouldn't be a safer place if absolutely no one had a gun.
