You might hear when there's gonna be a meteor shower in a local newspaper.. shooting stars are just luck.. they're not all that rare.. I saw one a few weeks ago.

I remember when i first saw a shooting star. I was in my flight doing drill and everyone else was turned with their backs to it - but i looked round [naughty of me rofl] and saw it, and my flight sgt saw it too. That was the night i almost got hypothermia from marching for 5 hours straight in the rain/hail. It took me 3 days to warm up again.

I saw 156 meteors, in sixth grade, in that meteor shower, if you're talking about the annual one.

In San Diego you can just see the bright ones, but I'm moving to Maui in a month and I remember how beautiful it was. I worked on a dinner boat and at night when we were riding in the dingy back to shore, we were in the fucking ocean by an island that has almost no light pollution. It was fucking amazing and I CAN'T WAIT to go back!!!!!!

it depends on what part of the city you're in... some areas are closer to the commerical districts with more lighting and others like in the more residential areas and over by the nature center there's less light pollution so you can see a lot more

Here in Las Vegas it is nearly impossible to see any stars because of the lights from all the casinos and street lights

I saw something a bit fucked last night, and i was wondering if any of you might be able to explain it.

It was about 4am today, sitting outside in my girl friends back garden, we was smoking a joint, and looking at the stars [i never realised how fucking amazing they are, and i couldnt imagine how good it'd look without the light pollution.

Anyway, we both saw one big flash, about 5 times the size of a star. It was a quick flash, yellowish in colour. Then about 2 seconds later we saw another, in the exact same spot. It was a clear sky, and it wasnt a plane, thats FOR SURE. That was it, didnt happen again, and we moved out the front to see if it was moving, and it wasnt. They really stuck out though, caught our attention.

I dont think it was shooting stars, well, im positive it wasnt, so i was just wondering if anyone here might have any ideas. Kinda of wierd, coz IF it was a UFO, it's my first. I had my phone in my hand too, i should have taken a video, but i guess i couldnt, it was too quick.
