Pick a way you are going to do it.. Paper towel.. Soil.. Soak.
    This may help.
You are going to need moisture, warmth, darkness and some patience!
If you choose to soak your seeds.. Put them in a glass of room temp water.. tap down the ones that float.. and leave them overnight and plant!

i've tried using the paper towel method, but what has always worked for me is to just take a dark brown seed that won't crush if you pinch it, wet the spot of ground where you plan to put it and then pop the seed in an inch or so pointed end downwards, then cover it with a little moist dirt, and then wait. i've had the most success with that.

The paper towel method is effective and easy. You should have warmth and moisture but not excess water in the bag and not over 85° F. One little trick that has not been proven effective, but seems to be, is to inflate the bag to make it pillow-like. Warmth will increase speed greatly!

Well: What has always worked for me is to: Get 2 nice salad plates or dinner plates that fit with each other, have two paper towels on hand, have a spray bottle with distilled water.
Fold the paper towel in half, put it on a plate. Spritz it with distilled water from your bottle until it is damp. Not soaked, just damp. Place your seeds on the paper towel. Cover with the second towel folded over. Spritz this paper towel until it is damp. Not soaking wet. Just damp. Now cover the seeds with the other plate.
All nice and dark. Give them a couple of days. Do not get in a big rush. You may actually seem something after a day or so but, be careful lifting the top paper cloth. You do not want to rip the seeds up. As soon as you see the smallest bit of root opening from the seed go ahead and plant it. Leave the rest until they start to show a root.
Do not leave the little guys there after they start to open. It is right into the planting mix as soon as they start to open. You risk damaging many too many tiny roots doing that.
This is called stratification in the nursery business.
Look for stratification of seeds on a search engine.

One more little suggestion. When I sprout seeds, I put a pinch of mycorrhyza culture (MycoBoost, if you want to know the brand) around each seed. I figure it gives the seedling an added boost. - Granny:hippy:
