I've been reading alot about vertical set-ups for hydro. Every one of them claim to yeild at least twice the amount then from a flat grow. Is there any reason why more people don't use them?

How about you get yourself one and apply it? Keep everyone here posted so we can see your results. You never know unless you try.

^^^ That's the best way to find out.
I've always been in love with the Omega Garden.
The cousin to the vertical grow systems.
The thing I see about the vertical grows, and the Omega setup, is that they require a vast amount of plants.
The Omega can take almost 300 plants if I'm not mistaken.
300 plants is not a 12 plant home grow anymore.
It's 300 freaking plants.
So that's why I would shy away from them.
The other reason, is that I haven't seen many 'successful' grows with the Omega.
There are various threads where the guys start, and post updates... but something happens.
Although, I read in a cannabis magazine the other day (forgot which one), a guy that was in fact growing successfully with a Omega-type garden.
He said it was great. He was always in constant rotation of the plants/crops, he said they ended up much faster than typical (45-50 days?) because of the strength of the stems, etc.
He was a for-profit grower I remember. 1,200 watts... two 600s inside a cool tube in the middle.
Hope that helps somewhat.
