Marijuana and hemp became illegal right about the same time that DuPont Chemical began introducining synthetic rope. Hemp rope is superior to synthetic rope in many respects, so DuPont needed a marketing advantage. What better way than to simply outlaw the competition?

The war on drugs doesn't make the government money; it costs the taxpayers.

I belive alot of what is being said here. There are many reasons why this magical plant became illegal and is still illegal. I also belive that one reason it is still illegal is because many people treat it like a drug. A prime example of this is when you ask somone about weed they have. You might ask what strain is this and they say "weed" or they say i dont care what it is as long as it gets me high. With so many people having no respect for the cannibis plant it is going to make it very hard to gain legal status.If we could educate the people that dont know about the true wonders of the plant it would be heading in the right direction. I know im also preachin to the preachers but i just thought i would say it anyway:jointsmile:

The CIA funds its ultra secret black ops through drug running, and has since at least the mid sixties. Go read about Air America and the Dark Alliance. Heroin, cocaine, cannabis, you name it. Check up on Highway Ricky Ross in LA and the start of the crack epidemic. It's all there.
That's how the government profits from the current law.

first off, most people don't like being stereotyped...
second, profiling, and stereotyping, is statistical fact.
third, when people hear others talk about being blind, or whatever, and they feel that they are the ones being talked about... an average person responds with their pride, (you fear what you do not understand, well, some people respond to fear differently) and pride is directly tied to esteem and confidence, and how people view themselves. So for the average person, anything percieved as an attack on their pride, will simply cloud them from what is trying to be conveyed, for it would mean that their world is not how they view it, and that since they have tied up their own self worth in these thoughts, they so not have the control over the world that they thought... causing instant rebellion for those not readily accepting.

this is common knowledge in psych, politics, and law enforcement.


a person trained in manipulation, will play on emotions, before trying for their actual goal.

so to simply try and throw facts out, to educate the public, is flawed... for it will only allow for a fair presentation on the thruth, or assumed truth. when nothing in life is fair, how can you compete?

basically, just like any "political" thread on cannacom, the world will just bicker and get no where.

while i can admit things like, the kid that got tazed, didn't make anything easier on himself, no one biased could admit, that somwhere amongst the foolishness, was a crime not commited by a youth.

only large scale major event, can forcably change people's perspective, because then they can feel safe enough (or UNsafe enough) to adjust their pride...

what im trying to say is that of course to us (canibis users) it is easy to see that marijuana is not bad and that it should be legal. but those who have never used canabis is going to listen to those anti-weed commercials and other forms of gov't propaganda. i didnt say that the gov't is corrupt and stuff, im just saying that the gov't is messing things up.

If they fuck up and lie a lot, doesn't that create conspiracies? I fully understand what you guys are saying, but I don't see how one issue of the government (mary jane) could be fucked up, but all else is still legit. If they fucked up on one part and can't admit it, what's stopping them from fucking something else up and continuing to cover it up (like aliens, c'mon, they exist).. that's just my opinion.

It's mainly illegal because of economic reasons. In the 20s, William B. Hearst was getting rich off of tobacco, but a lot of people were smoking something else. Hearst owned newspapers and had friends in tobacco, so he had articles written about how harmful mary jane is, and that it (paraphrase) caused African-Americans to lean towards criminal behavior and implied that it would cause black people to assault white women. I do not know if Hearst was involved with "Reefer Madness," the film that was designed to scare people into prohibiting marijuana.

Regardless, with the newspaper articles, the film, and the fact that mainly minorities at that time smoked marijuana and most of the majority did not know what it was, it was easy to get a prohibition on it.

The Partnership for a Drug Free America was started by the tobacco lobby. If mary jane is made legal, they fear that people will smoke less tobacco. If it was made legal, the US could wipe out the national debt and also improve its education programs on reefer taxation alone. We are prohibiting a substance whose taxation could benefit all, so that one small segment of the population can enjoy more profit.
