Minimum wage here is atleast 11$/hr for a shitty fast food job.

And I can go work for my dad for 25$/hr under the table whenever I want.

I live here in socal. What I found is that the big businesses are constantly taking advantage of workers. They're not being paid how much their work is worth, but the smallest amount they can pay and still get enough employees. You might say that this is supply-demand, but if all the businesses have an unspoken agreement to underpay employees then the businesses win, and the employees will be forced to work for less.

I know when I left Central Alberta last year, McDick's was offering to pay $12/hr for the night shift, and if you didn't have a ride to and from work, they would offer free cab rides.

There is a huge work shortage there right now. Companies are hurting for good employees as Albertan's are lazy bastards who either never go to work, don't care about there job, and do a shitty job leaving their fuckups for someone else to clean up.

    Yes, I hate Alberta.

i have worked at mcdees, old country buffett, D'angelo's, a cinima, and a few restraunts. the fast food places taught me how to deal with rushes, cleaning, and the public. Skills that are good to have when applying for a decant restraunt. don't knock the paper hat jobs, there a good place to start, and if you fall down you can usualy go back if you left on good terms.
