    Huge Grow Room In Progress...

I have been saving for quit some time now waiting till I had the cash to build my ultimate grow room and the time has come. The actual grow room is in the progress of being built (finishing my basement) so far now I need to start picking out equipment.

    Its a 15 x 15 foot flower room

    -Lighting-
    10 600w dual MH/HPS digital ballasts
10 Cool Tubes w/ bat wing mounted 8?-12? above
    Mylar all walls
Floors and ceiling covered in white PVC sheets

    -Ventalation-
    A/C Unit
    Humidifier
    Dehumidifier
Exuast hooked up to electric dampers
    Co2 Generator

    -Controllers-
    C.A.P. Xtreme Greenhouse Controller
    Nutrient/PH Doser

    -Hydro Setup-
    Unsure of as of now

I have a basic idea but actual links to equipment would be helpful ... I want to buy the best of the best and not hold back on anything. If you think I'm missing things on teh equipment list please let me know.

First issue you better address is how you are going to power all of your equipment. 10 600 watt lamps is going to draw ~60 amps +/- a few. Not to mention your A/C, dehudifier, etc. You could easily be at 80-90 amps. Thats a pile of juice.

Once you have that resolved, then I'd move forward. There aint a house in America, or anyplace else for that matter wired where you can "plug" that much in wall sockets and it will work.

I'd be as nervous as a 18 year old whore turnin her first trick when the 6th Fleet docked using that much power.

    Anyways, best of luck

if you are running that many lights run them on 240v its only 25 amps I would do the same for the ac since you will need a large one I would get at least 24,000 btu which I belive would only come 240v any way.

Here's my take - for what it's worth.

First of all, Bonger and u.g.u. are both right. You are going to be drawing quite a bit of power, so, bring a decent sized sub-panel down to your basement and run all your wiring from there. Then, as u.g.u. suggests, use 240 volt whenever you can.

Second - I just had a long conversation with a friend who's using 600's in hydro huts. He likes to keep his plants under 46 inches tall but he was complaining about the penetration of the 600's. Although he grows really good bud, he just couldn't seem to get the buds as big as he wants. He also said the lack of light penetration was obvious on the lower buds. So, you might want to consider using 1000w lamps.

Finally, I have cool tubes and they are ok for certain applications. However, you are talking about having a cool tube with a reflector over it. Just buy cooled reflectors. Aside from the fact that you'll save money, reflectors are probably better than cool tubes for your application. (The cool tubes tend to put out light all over the place, which is good for a small area with reflective walls, but the reflectors direct the light downward, which is better for your big room.)

If you can, find the thread "xcrispi's current growings on" and check out his hydro set-up.

    Good luck.

If i was going to run 6 k worth of lights .. i would do it on a flip flop. 2 different rooms with 3 k in each room .. easier to deal with the heat, and like the rest said .. personally id go for the 1k hps .. better penetration, Any one ive heard of getting 2-3 lbs per 1000k is doing it with 1000k bulbs and ballasts.

And as far as hydro setups go .. im a big believer in flood and drain setups.. no root rot problems etc. that u get in the tube setups.. flood and drain is pretty fool proof.

o ya also wanted to add that i agree bout the cool tubes .. they are good for boxed in setups .. but not so good for largs open rooms.. if your doing "sog" setup id suggest the lr1000

as far as wiring everything I'm all set with that ... my brother is an electrician and has experience with setting up indoor grow rooms.

as far as 100w lights over 600w lights,
its a sog setup so penitration is not an issue considering the plants will be kept very short with one main cola. The advantage of a 600w light is a dual mh/hps ballast setup. I can flip from mh to hps in seconds and there cheaper to run.

as far as cooltubes go ... I dont have any windows in this room so the only cooling will be through heavy ventalation and portable ac units. cool tubes have alot less heat to deal with and from my experinece in the past cooled hoods produce way more heat then cooltubes. If I had the means to install a large ac unit I wouldnt use the cool tubes. As far as thye bat wing goes the internal reflectors in cool tubes suck so a large bat wing reflector does the job ... if I need to run more lights then I will.

sounds like my dream set up with the 10 600s.......i'd flip flop 5 and 5..no cool tubes just batwings and a big exaust fan in each room.10" at least with a 6" intake.I do agree with the person that recommended lr 1000s though......go look at the sealed room 3lbs a light thread by tranoble.absolutely amazing.....anyway good luck with your endevor hope all goes well.

If you're setting this up for continuous pot generation, you probably won't ever need to flip between MH and HPS. Also, if I were you I would look into getting some T5 fluorescents for vegetation and cloning. They're actually more energy efficient than HID, and they're more space efficient too since you can stack them on shelves.

These are all pretty good justifications for doing things the way you are doing them. However, you seem to be putting way too much emphasis on vegging, or maybe just the wrong emphasis? :wtf:

For the kind of SOG grow that you are talking about, you are going to be starting with very small plants. There is really no need to ever veg them under the big lights. You can fine tune your operation so that the clones you produce are ready to flower as soon as you put them in your hydro unit. You really only need a few cfl's to accomplish this first part of the process. (Clone in Rapid Rooters. Put only four clones in each six-clone egg-crate thingy. Put six egg-crates in each dome - in other words, give them plenty of breathing room/space. It'll take about 6-7 days for the clones to have roots. When they all have roots, take the domes off, put the trays under more flouros for 3-4 days and you are ready to flower. And you'll be starting out with plants with a bodacious root structure.)

Anyway, you might want to re-think how much space and what kind of equipment you want to devote to the cloning/vegging part of the operation.

Regardless of if you actually ever use your lights with MHs, the digital ballasts are more efficient and are a good investment. One real nice thing about the 600w's is that they sell real quickly on ebay when you realize that you actually should have 1000's.
