Maybe this is silly, but...

So I signed up for these message boards for one purpose, and it may be silly, but you guys have given some good feedback in the past. So here goes...

My fiance was just offered a great job that requires a drug test before he can start. I'm assuming that they will use a urine test since it's being given at the local hospital.

Prior to this summer, he'd smoked maybe 5 times in his life, and this summer he smoked a handful of times prior to mid-July (never more than 3 or 4 small hits). The last time he smoked was was August 4th, and his test isn't until next Wednesday or Thursday.

My biggest concern is that he's a big guy (6 ft, about 285), and I'm wondering what the likelihood is that he'd still test positive. We're talking 25 days since last smoking, but the test may be as sensitive as 15ng/ml. He's already passed a home test (50ng/ml) as of 3 days ago, and he hadn't tested himself before that.

Any thoughts would be helpful. He's not too worried, but this job means a lot to both of us! Thanks.

Because he is a big guy (those with more body fat tend to take longer to get clean than average or skinny) I suggest using a home test and use the first void of the day. Try to do this Saturaday morning and if there is no line at all he better sub (read the substitution sticky). If the line is faint he should pass the real thing but a mild dilution may be called for. That is half the fluids in the dilution sticky and all the aspirin and Tums/Rolaids.

So if he takes another at home test during the first void of the day and the line is as clear and dark as it was 3 days ago...he's probably all set? Last time it was as clear as the cocaine line (a substance he's probably never even seen before).

And thanks for the info about the difference between the two tests and what they detect. I've been scouring the internet for the past few days and nowhere else was it described so clearly. That makes much more sense.

I'm feeling a little more optimistic, and we'll definitely try another at-home in the AM.

I'm sorry, I missed that he passed an at home test. Was it with a first void? If so then save your money on a second test and have him go into couch potato mode the day before the test, enjoying lazy activity and enjoying some high fat food.

Great. I'll grab another test tomorrow (the first one we took wasn't the very first void of the day) to do on Sunday. Do all brands work essentially the same way as long as they're approved?

He's hoping the line will be there, full force, so he can spend some quality lazing time.

He took another home test on Monday morning, first void of the day. It was negative. Very clear line, too. Thank goodness, because shortly after that, his work called to tell him that he should come in that morning for the drug test. He drank a couple glasses of water (not for dilution, just to be able to take the test), and now we're just waiting for the results. We're feeling pretty good about it, and the hospital even volunteered the information that they've had several false positives recently. So maybe there's some wiggle room if, by some odd chance, his test comes up positive.
