Why No Private Message Sending?

I'm not sure it works, or I don't have a option enabled in my profile, but I did not see anything and it seems as though this forum does not allow PM. In 15 years online this is the first forum I have ever been to that does not allow PM. What is the reason for this?

You can PM when you become a Cafe Member.

Cafe Member, no sorry paying $20 just to send PM is not a good idea, in fact this is really bad. Asking for support is one thing, and giving and paying for support to help a community, but killing forum options for this sake of trying to get more forum options, that's what you call ----> Dirty

I'm a PC geek Unix/Linux/Windows, been online 15 years. I'm not a noob to the internet, no one does this. One thing I see here Cannabis.com does not seem to know anything about Internet etiquette. Please don't tell me I'm wrong, you can do what you want, but you'll never get the respect of the PC geek community that knows better, maybe the noobs yes, to bad for them that know no better, and those that prey on them for their support by taking away normal forum features.

Cannabis.com do what you want it's your forum. But I will not pay, since you have no concept of PC brotherhood, or have a true understanding of a Internet Community.

PM spam is a problem on many other large sites by "hit-and-run" users; folks sending out nonsense PMs wasting people's time.

Restricting PMs to Cafe Members only greatly reduces abuse (reduces server/db load too) and basically makes the PM system worthwhile for those with PM access - Cafe Members can be confident that the PM they receive will be worth the time reading, and the person sending it is likely a real person as opposed to a spam "bot", etc.

Speaking of "internet etiquette" - that is something which has evolved, and continues to do so, as the internet does...

Ie. Mail relays used to be free and wide open for anyone - these days one is hard pressed to find a legitimate open relay.

I understand totally your sentiments, but things aren't like they were 15 years ago - the little "internet community" of techies, academies, etc is long gone along with bang paths and the NSF restrictions ... these days the internet itself is just infrastructure - just because one is on the internet doesn't automatically make them part of any community like back in the NSF days.

I replied in the other post, there has always been good and bad in the past and now, and the good old days are not gone. Community does still exist on the Internet, it is just how well you run it, and monitor it, and know how to control it.
