greenhouse
I have room for one in my yard. I am thinking about getting one.
Is there anyone that can
give me insight on using one? I live in So Cal and I try to use
primarily rain water. Are there fans or soil I am going to need to use?
etc. Is it even a good idea? :stoned:

I grow in a greenhouse and the number one thing to be able to do is dump excess heat. You will need fans and shade cloth. The best thing to do would probably be to build a frame around your greenhouse that you can hang shade cloth from to shade the entire gh.
You will still needs fans though. Check out Santa Barbara Greenhouses, they really are a high quality gh.
The other fact of life in Greenhouse growing is whiteflies. Insecticidal soap such as Safers can be used to wash them off and it is less harmful than insecticides to natural predators.
Whiteflies also love to fly into and get stuck to yellow fly and aphid traps. Hang those around and change them every month or so. I use Biocare traps.
Growers, vegetable that is, here also use a natural parasite in their greenhouses. Encarsia formosa wasps. They love whiteflies. They are often in a good garden store or on the internet.
Trim off any leaves at the bottom of the plant or wherever that are turning yellow. Whiteflies love the color yellow. Thats why the pest strips are yellow.
Use neem oil at 3-4 day intervals. Spray early in the morning when it is still dark. The white flies are all at rest and not buzzing about.
The soap neem and pest strips work for me. Greenhouses are great for growing!!:vap_rasta: When in doubt, whip it out :vap_rasta:

One thing I forgot to mention about Greenhouses is spiders. They are your best friend! Do not worry about black widows they will not go near a greenhouse they love the dark. I have spiders getting real fat and happy in my gh. Eating all the bugs that want to eat my girls. It is kinda fun to watch them grow bigger and bigger each week!
