You dont want to completely remove the metal from the bulb, however you do need to make a hole in the bottom. Puncture the metal directly next to the black contact area on the bottom of the bulb. You should immediately see how easy it is to push through the metal, then poke some scissors or a knife in there and work your way around the entire black contact point until it is removable. You may have to wiggle it or sever a tiny wire inside the metal part to remove the piece.
