Potted or not?

I just tried outdoor growin this year for the first time and didn't use a pot or anything, just planted it right into the ground and it's lookin pretty good so far. I was wondering tho, are there any advantages to putting your plants in pots? Disadvantages?

When did you sow the seed?

Seeds were growing well in the ground before man started putting them in pots. People grow seeds in pots to give them an early start. You can benefit from them growing up indoors for 4-6 weeks, then when the weather gets good to plant out, your plant is ahead of the game. You can get alot more veg time which will give you more buds. The other reason we plant in pots is to avoid rough weather while they are little. We try to protect them until they get strong and can defend the outdoors for themselves. Good Luck! :jointsmile:

mine are in the ground and the are doing freaking awesome, but then again ive never grown a plant to maturity in a pot so i wouldn't be a good judge.

in pots they would be more visiable, you need to worry about watering more since they dry out faster, the only thing i can think of good about pots outdoors i guess is if you will have to move them?

Is it ok to plant in like a nice opening in the woods? Cause thats what i was gonna do but then i was told that that is exactly what helicopters look for...

planting in pots offers alot of advantages.. im drunk, so lets see how many i can remember.. one, you have alot more control over the soil blend that your roots are growing in.. second, if inclement weather threatens (i live in florida, a hurricane is always around the corner this time of year) you can move it freely, even in the house if need be, and third, plants in containers arent as susceptible to fungi and diseases.. i swear by container grown, have never planted a single seed in the ground itself.. i just transplanted my 7 gallons into 25 gallons (which are fucking huge) as you can see in these two pics.. the disadvantages to containers is that it adds height to your plant, plus the visible bucket, making it more easy to spot... its a tough choice, i reckon..

helicopters and planes do look for large crops that way. if you find a nice out of the way spot and keep your numbers down you should be ok. i kind of stick to what i was told a long time ago, dont plant more than 10 or 20 in one spot(or less) and dont plant them in rows to give a more natural look to your garden. and of course keep your trash and things that dont belong in the woods cleaned up.

in my immediate surroundings, I needed to leave mine in a pot, the damned gophers are everywhere, and eat anything that looks like a root ...they're attracted by the moist, easy-digging soil ... I drilled holes all around my pots, and buried the pot, more stealth, but still allows for great drainage, and root-growth (at least, until the gopher gets the excess)

if you're gonna use BIG pots, ya ought to put more soil in them, they look half-empty :smokin:
