    GROW ROOM SANITATION

What about covering everything in Panada Plastic (black white plastic). it would give you a scrubbable surface and then you wouldn't have to paint styrofoam etc. It's real cheap too, hence easy to replce each grow if you wanted to.

I think you have the scubber in the wrong place. Someone will have to validate this for me. I think it has to go on the "suck" end and you will be sucking air out of the room "blowing" it outside. Check out user spaceneedle as there is some excellent venting information in some of his posts.

    Good luck.

You need to make sure you get all of the mold / crap out of there . Behind the foam too or your chancing making you and the girls sick to say the least .
This is exactly why I refuse to use mylar anymore = crap living between the walls -n- mylar . I too am a basement grower . Clean the hell out of it and use some KILZ to prime the walls and add "Mildex" = mold / mildew combatant to the final flat white topcoat of paint . Mildex is aval. at Homedepot / lowes / Ace hrdwr etc...
    Peace

unfortunately, I'm pretty sure that pvc plastic would end up costing some $60. I can definitely handle bleach water, though.

    Here's what I would do.
Start with a dehumidifier. You can't grow in a dank cellar without one, period. Dry the SHIT outta the basement.
Do your bleach thing with a mop. Floor, walls, etc. Use a scrub brush with bleach on any exposed unpainted wood that seems to be a potential host for mold.
Now go out and buy a 5 gallon pail of KILZ oil-based primer. That stuff is the cat's ass for problem cellars. I redid mine with a fucking DECK BRUSH and my mold still hasn't returned in 3 years, plus BONUS it's white, eliminating any need to screw around with hanging plastic.
It WILL make your house reek kerosene for about 3-5 days but whatever, it's worth it. Including for the value added to your house by having a dry, bright, clean white basement- that shows VERY well for potential buyers.
Mold spores, meh. The trick is to not give them anywhere to take hold. Keep your furnace filter changed every few months, keep that dehumidifier cranking, and you should be fine.

reaching budgets end, unfortunately. Also, I'm working with a rental house, so semi-serious improvements like painting the floor is not entirely likely, although I've been considering it. I think that what me and my roomy will do is tape up all the gaps in the styrafoam panels, and in the boards that make up the ceiling, then take a mop w/ a bleach solution and mop the walls, rafters, ceiling, and floor. Then I'll use a negative ion generator (found one on amazon that retails at most webstores for 35 or 40 at the low low price of 17.95!). This means, of course, lots of cleaning walls and what not on a regular basis, but I'm happy as long as theres not a lot of crap floating around in the air. This will also do its part in odor elimination.

This whole operation is being made more difficult by the one heavy cabinet already in the room, and the aquarium w/ the 400W MH propped up above it... I got way ahead of myself on this project; but no regrets!
