4-6 plants wont stink up the entire basement. Build a carbon scrubber, those are the best and is a nice addition to your exhaust fans.

Ion genarators, elctrostat filters, carbon filters, and HEPA filters are all effective ways of fighting order.

Just get a ozone generator and use a tiny fan to mix the air being sanitized.

Do not use an ozone generator in the same room as your plants, it will kill them. Buy some active charcoal from the pond fish store (it's cheaper there). Get 3 furnace air filters and a good fart fan. You can make a scrubber with little effort and it will handle all your odor problems for 6 to 8 months then you just change the charcoal. I use 6 pounds in 3 layers in a 7x7x7 sealed room and it works great.

Do you have a drain/sewer in your basement?
If so, I've heard of people removing the lid from the drain and attatching a fan to it so the odor goes down the sewer.

i have been using ozone generators in the same room and it does not kill your plants. ozone is O3 (3 oxygen molecules) and it neutralized any free radicles (nasty stuff) in your area. it does NOT harm your plants. it actually makes it more sanitary and less of a chance of mold/mildew/and any other nasty growths.

Ozone, a major smog constituent, inhibits the ability of plants to open the microscopic pores on their leaves and breathe, according to research published Tuesday in Proceedings of the National Academy of Sciences.

"Our work has shown, for the first time, that, rather than causing the pores or stomates on a plant's leaves to close, as was generally assumed, ozone actually inhibits stomatal opening by directly affecting the 'guard cells' that control the opening", said Gro Torsethaugen, a researcher at Penn State University

interesting article, thank you. i have two sharper image ionizer. one small desktop one in the closet and one regular size one in the room next to it. i'm not sure, but i know that the amout of O3 that is put out is very minimal and is safe for humans. i've read that ozone is not good for humans to be exposed to but the amounts of ozone these put out they say are below those readings.

so do you think it is okay for the plants with the devices i have? where it can have just enough to kill any free radicles? but not "harm" the plant.
