    Anyone ever try these bulbs?

    Hey,

I am starting to get pretty good results with the bulb pictured below. It is a Sylvania Spot Gro. I was wondering if anyone has ever used these bulbs and what the end result were in using them. I just got it today and so far the pants seem to be responding well to them. But I didn't know if in the long run if it would mess up my plants.

    Thanks

It's incandescent, so it'll probably burn your plants. You're much better off with a compact fluorescent bulb, or several of them, or some form of HID lighting.

    A short summary of efficiency:
Incandescent lights: 10% light, 90% heat
Fluorescent lights: 40% light, 60% heat
HID lights: 50% light, 50% heat.

These are only approximations, and vary based on the light. Also, the percentage of each light's spectrum that is usable by plants varies depending on the type of light.

i have used the same type 3 way incondesent how much luens does it say? how many watts and whats the temps?

its better used for vegging but you would need something like hps light to flower ok buds but you can also flower with good fluro's and there not so hot and way cheap and saves energy but also depends on how many plants then worry about light!

    Anyone ever try these bulbs?

Ok I changed to day to a CFL the swirly bulbs from lowes. But I was given the advice to keep them on 18/6 during this stage and then much later change it to 12/12. However when I turned off the light I came back after the 6th hour to turn the light back on and they were leaning over. So I was wondering if I should just leave the light on constantly becuase turning it off for even 6 hours is having a bad effect on them.

I will try to post some pics of it but when I saw it leaning over I carefully staked them up. And I figured I would keep an eye on them. So I am not sure if the plant that was leaning the most if a pic will do any good. but the other one was only leaning toward the top so I can get a pic of that. I will post it in a bit.

Also I should add I use to have a fungus gnat problem and they killed 2 plants before and I cleaned the pots changed the dirt and the little fuckers came back so I layed out some sticky traps on the sides of the pots. So i don't think they were there long enough to do any damage and the one that looked the worst didn't have any gnats in it at all.

It's kind of frustrating but practice makes perfect I guess and I have plenty of seeds to try from. I am trying to getting growing it down before I move up in the amount of plants I grow so right now I am growing 2 plants in 2 different pots. I just really hope I don't have to start over again.

Also one more thing. One little sprout has a little purpleish/red stripe on it. Never seen this in any pics so was wondering if anyone else has heard of this and what it is.

Thanks for the help thus far.

You say the plants are leaning? Is there a light source that they are leaning toward? Also, how many watts is the bulb you have now?

Fungus gnats are probably not the reason your plants died, however fungus gnats thrive in overwatered soil. Maybe you watered them too much?

Well wierd thing well not really wierd but anyways I looked at the plants again. One is definately dying because it's stem is getting thinner and the thing is looking more wilted. I have a feeling because of the trouble with fungus gnats before I tried to not over water them and thus ending up under watering them.

However I was able to mostly save one plant to where it is now looking loads better than this morning. I am just keeping a close eye on it because I don't think I am out of the woods yet.

Also Khronik the last plants I feel I did overwater them. I know that was one of my mess ups so your probably right.

The watts of the bulbs were 23 watts and I have 2 of them. There really weren't very many high wattage CFL's at the store I went to and I just ended up buying a box of 2. I set up one lamp do you think I should put both of them up?

    Thanks again.

more bulbs more lumens....... more heat?? just keep air circulating and they will be fine just keep the cfls on for right now until you get a desired height (all basically depends on strain so do a lil study on your babies such as sativa/ indica ratio) after that never ever let any light hit them during flowering a hps will be good for that because it has the red spectrum that it likes... your plants depend on you to play mother earth which you already know so nutrients are a big deal when it comes to quality... hope this helps
