though i'd love to see the blight of religious indoctrination wiped from the face of the earth, it would be a fools errand to even try. even the soviet union, with the full might of the state behind its efforts, couldn't rid itself of such ignorance and superstition. as long as there are lost souls looking for easy answers, religion will exist.

we all have our delusions. mine are that i am not a lunatic freak, that normality is relative and that life is art. most others seem to choose that road too often traveled, following in the footsteps of the dead and bowing to tired tradition.
    and what is your goal?
the destruction of the ignorance and bigotry inherent to the american way of life seems to me to be a worthy aim. though all most of us can do is lead by example, it might be enough. my true goal is to live until i die, i need nothing after that.

    The truth about Jesus

Christianity is nothing more than ancient paganism rolled up into a snowball. The supposed resurrection, holy trinity, and judgment all share their roots in various "primitive" religions. It is astonishing how often people winnow out what they like about the bible and completely ignore all the evil shit that is written as well. People obey the ten commandments written in Exodus 20, but rarely do you hear people preach about '"proper" slavery ethics, selling daughters into prostitution, and killing disobedient children as written in Exodus 21.

I thought the Romans invented Christianity to oppress people and kill those who did not go along?

If time is the determining factor, then Xianity can't be true, other religions have survived longer than Xianity. I doubt someone of faith would call another religion "retarded" but obviously they can't be right in someone's mind if they belong to a different faith. The longest lasting faith of today must be the correct religion, as it's stood the test of time the longest.

I know you're joking, I assumed you knew that I was as well. But, it'd be 1 vs 5, not a vs 6. Ratios aren't fractions

But I'm saying the atheists could do it in secret, the religious people would never suspect the atheists. Get it down to 4:1 or 3:1 and then hope the crowd can't coexist, like a bad tag team in wrestling

The atheists, I do find, tend to be intellectually snobby toward the religious, but the religious are also religiously or spiritually snobby toward the atheists.

And your holey blanket story is *really* about a holy blanket

It's kind of difficult, actually. Imagine being in a position of power, and trying to set the morals and laws for it. You'd probably be tempted to make them as close to yours as possible, since you have a unique view on the way the world works. Not that I'm defending him, I just understand that his intentions (in certain regards) are probably good. not the ones to do about money, obviously, but anything else I would think heès trying to be somewhat decent

I would like to know how you can consider believers of religion closeminded when you cant even keep a conversation civil. next time you feel like sharing your views of religion, just ask yourself... wait for it... "What would Jesus Do".
Reread what Delusions said. He just said that he is not a lunatic freak, he never mentioned anyone else being one. And he also said that its a delusional thought, so in essence he's calling himself a lunatic freak.

In reality wether people want to be religious or not is hardly important. We can safely say from a non bias position that religion is responsible for as many bad things as good things, but this is the nature of man.

The bible is just the bible. Somone reads it for the first time eveyday, but man existed a long time without it to, so I don't think it's essential in any sense of the word. Even monkies can exhibit signs of morality, comforting distressed members of their monkey gang. There was one such case where a small orphan of a monkey gang was playfighting with the son of a high ranking female. the fight ot rough and the female attacked the infant in protection of her own child. The females son, who had been "Protected" then sat with his wounded friend and put his arms around him, cleaning his wound carefully. Other members of the group then proceeded to to the same, giving him affectionate pats and hugs, before he picked himself up, nursing his wounds and appeard to be maknig peace with the female, who then also hugged him.

Please not that at no time did these animals begin to kill eachother because they believed in differnt things.

But war happens because of relgion (not always but often) so how do you attribute certain deaths to religion and certain to war?

if you step far enough away from all the religious claptrap, you tend to see it all as rather childish (sort of like believing in santa claus or the tooth fairy). even though no offense is meant, you can't help but see the believers of such superstitions as childish too. when dealing with fervent believers, even ones you know and respect, it can be difficult to remember that they are still rational people. well, some of them are.
