Just my 3 cents, but perhaps if so many people still believe in the bible, there might be somthing to it? Im not saying its all 100% fact, but at the very least its a good book that preaches good morals (not the ones that people twist into political agendas) and decency towards our fellow man (im not saying all christians are decent, but at least the new testament preaches it)

As for atheism, it is pretty outnumbered as the VAST majority believe in some higher power, and if the atheists banded together, the christians, jews, muslims, buddhists, hindus, druids, and hippys that worship weed would band together and WTFPWN everyone. If religions fight so fiercly against each other, god help anyone that gets all religions against them

It seems that for people that hate religion forced upon them, you guys are quick to do the same thing with atheism.

also, JDmarc, it isnt a good idea to try to back up your beliefs with scripture when arguing with atheists. Thats like the government using anti weed propaganda in an argument with anyone from this site, rofl.

yea about the test of time.....first of all the original text that the bible is TRANSLATED in could be interpereted in MANY ways...also think about language and how it evolves even over a 10 year period of time....now the bible has been rewriten-retranslated many many times by MAN and writen in their own interpitation ...no doubt they all have the same basic message and im not saying that that message is wrong but come on now all religion requires you to have faith im just saying i belive in science and fact and proof not childrens storys and furthermore orginized religion is responsible for more eveil and war in the world and history than its ever done good

Britney Spears used to top the charts with her singles, but that hardly means that she's got any substance. Popularity is generally not an indicator of anything.

You think the religions would actually be able to band together? I'd doubt that one, especially if the atheists started in secret. It's not a vast outnumbering, 1 in 6 people are atheists. It's kinda funny to think of dumb scenarios tho hehe. I'm thinking of a handicapped tag team match in pro wrestling where the team of two is composed of rivals, and they end up kicking the crap out of each other instead of their supposed opponent (I used to be into wrestling haha)

Religions really aren't forced on people in most parts of the world today, but back in medieval times and before, they had hella times taking over the world.

I was chilling with my dad last night and we watched something about the spanish inquisition, and DAYYYYUM that's some crazy stuff. Of course, I'm not suggesting all religious people would do something like that, but back in the day when the church hid the knowledge from the people, and provided them with misinformation, I'm just saying it'd be hard for anyone who disagreed with the powers that were.

also, i was joking about religions banding together, its about as likely as atheists exterminating everyone (you guys better not! ). although I would say in terms of outnumbering people, 1 vs 6 isnt a fight I would personally wanna be involved in as the 1. 6 people can easily kick a single persons ass.

as for forcing religion, i wasn't saying actually forcing it on someone, i simply meant that for disliking preachy christians (i dont blame you, i don't like them either), many atheists are quite preachy as well.

I dont see how you can say time doesn't matter, it only took us 2 years to realize Spears is retarded, about 6 years to realize Bush is retarded (some like myself hated him from the start, but as country its been like 5-6), but in the 2k years or so christianity has been around it has never been "debunked". sure, some sections are sketchy, but as a whole, it seems to be thriving now more then ever.

Besides, if it was such a popularity contest (like brittney), why did it even survive back in the day when christians were tortured for their beliefs and such? I'm the first to admit there are alot of holes in the bible, but just because a blanket has holes doesn't mean it won't keep you warm (sorry for the touchy feely analogy).

I don't know about anybody else, but I don't need Christianity to "keep me warm." It may be comforting to some, but I think its brainwashing.
