When ever I smoke a bowl my eyes always tear up, why? And my head thumps like crazy.

And after a couple of minutes i look at what I have left and there is still alot of green left. Should i just push the ash on top down to get to the goodness? Orrr am I doing something wrong? When I empty the bowl I always feel like i'm wasting and it hate it.
