    Oregon Medical Marijuana in Danger!

initiative 104 is also known as the Crime Fighting Act of 2004. It is sponsored by Kevin Mannix a Republican who has run for govenor twice. This is a very long bill. It deals with meth, child predators, and basically tries to be "tough on crime." It tries to sneak past the fact that it will repeal medical mj by making the bill incredibiley long.

Anyone who lives in Oregon needs to fight this bill. The movement has experienced several setbacks recently and this would be horrible. People who live in Oregon need to get in touch with Oregon NORML, write LTE's, and get people to register to vote so this bill can be defeated, and anything else they can think of. I think the key to this bill is to make about medical mj. I don't think the Oregon voters will vote for it if they know it makes medical mj against the law. If anyone from Oregon could give a report from ground zero that would be great.

First that link is a bad link. no info there. Second in a recent vote
NORML -- 165 Members of Congress Stand Up For Medi-Pot patients -- Thank Them Now!
Only one of our state reps "greg walden" voted against.
Every other rep was in favor of ending federal raids on the medical marijuana community in 11 states including oregon. Also on the norml website, are all of the bills, initiaves ect currently up and that one is not listed "initiative 104" But even if slipped by norml, with all but 1 of our state reps in favor of medical use, how could it even begin to get passed? I am not versed in politics so i feel that would be a valid question. and could you find a better link?

I did however find a link on norml for a letter we can write to have the title of said initiative changed so initiative 104 is there good find and thanks for the info.
Kevin Mannix's I-104 Initiative would Repeal the Oregon Medical Marijuana Act ... but misleading Ballot Title wouldn't tell that to the voters!

Oregon Secretary of State, Elections Division
    Attn: Compliance Control for Initiative-104
    141 State Capitol
    Salem, OR 97310-0722

Re: Compliance for I-104 chief petitioners filed by Mr. Brady and Ms. Allison.

    Dear Mr. Bradbury and staff:

Thank you for allowing me to comment on I-104. My information is from the website of the Oregon SOS. I -104 is a very long and complicated initiative. Section 1 admits to 13 different goals of the initiative (??a? through ??m?). Some have to do with crime, some with voting, some with medical care such as the Oregon Medical Marijuana Law, and some with executive branch staffing.

This initiative must be split up into several different initiatives because it is far too confusing to Oregon voters to have 13 different goals in one initiative. In particular the part about eliminating the Oregon Medical Marijuana Law that voters passed by popular initiative in 1998 - ORS 475.300 - 475.346 are repealed upon passage of this act in Section 10 (h) of I-104 - should be considered separately. The current title deceives Oregonians into overturning a law they already voted on and passed because it fails to mention the most important part of I-104.

The ballot title listed as, "Modifies Laws Addressing Crime Prevention, Criminal Prosecutions/Sanctions, Medical Marijuana, Law Enforcement; Creates Tax Credit" is an anemic attempt at a too complicated initiative. Oregonians will have no idea from this title they are repealing a ballot initiative they recently approved in 1998 and may need of their own care.

As mentioned, any repeal of the Oregon Medical Marijuana Law of 1998 (Measure 67) should be considered as a separate initiative.

If you disagree, then the ballot title should at least say, "Repeals Medical Marijuana Law" such as, "Modifies Laws Addressing Crime Prevention, Criminal Prosecutions/Sanctions, Law Enforcement; Repeals Medical Marijuana Law; Creates Tax Credit".

Thank very much. Please contact me if I am unclear.

    Sincerely,

The problem is, it's a ballot initiative that may go to the voters, not a bill that would go to the legislators.
If it gets on the ballot, a lot of voters may think it's really an anti crime bill and vote for it, not realizing that it will even affect medical marijuana.
This is a seriously dangerous initiative.

This bill is a travesty. It is brought to us by an idiot politician who wants to put everyone on marinol and abolish the OMMP.
Funny the OMMP is the only program that runs in the BLACK. It is fully self supporting. All done by the patients.

Mannix needs to be drawn and quartered and stuffed into a small jail cell with Bubba.
