The Mandala Bunch (Satori & Hashberry)
Meet the Families!
This grow log will take you through the lives of two families sharing a set of grow boxes: the Satoris and the Hashberries. The drama began on August 2nd, when 6 Satoris and 6 Hashberries were put in wet paper towels to germinate. After soaking for a day, the seeds were all put in their new homes: two Rubbermaid storage boxes filled with topsoil.
To provide our families with light, two shoplights were used, with GE T12 40-watt 48" 6500K daylight bulbs. To make their home brighter, and to keep them from disturbing their flowering neighbor, Big Bud, strips of mylar were placed over the open parts of their container.khronik Reviewed by khronik on . Meet the Satoris!
The Satori family came from Mandala Seeds. You can read more about them here. These folks came from nice big seeds and are full of life. All of them sprouted. Ariana, Beth, Cathy, Diane, Edna, and Stubby are happily enjoying their new home. In order to encourage them, I am calling them all by girls' names. Ariana, Beth, Cathy, Diane, and Edna all look pretty similar, so there's no sense in posting too many pictures of them. Here's Diane:
Unfortunately, Stubby was born with a birth defect. She had only one cotyledon, and it was half rotted. Her leaves still worked, but without the nutrients in her cotyledon, it was going to be an uphill battle. Here's Stubby a few days after she was born:
To our relief, Stubby's leaves have continued to grow, albeit, a bit slowly. Here's Stubby now:
But wait, what's this? There's a new baby in the house! And she's sharing Stubby's room! Uh-oh, the Satoris must not have thought Stubby was going to make it, so they had another baby!

Meet the Hashberries!
The Hashberry family also came from Mandala Seeds. You can read more about them here. These seeds were not quite as big as the Satoris, but they have done fairly well for themselves too. These plants are named Zelda, Yolanda, Victoria, Shorty, Dopey, and Nasty. They all sprouted within a few days except Dopey and Nasty. Dopey and Nasty were dug up, and Nasty wasn't sprouted. Opening Nasty's seed up revealed a foul-smelling mess. Well, I sure don't need a foul-smelling mess in my garden! Good riddance! Dopey was another story. Her root was coming up first! The tip of her root was dried up, and she was standing on her head! I carefully exhumed her and stood her right-side-up. She was alive, but not very healthy. It remains to be seen how she'll do.
All of the other Hashberries are growing well, although not quite as vigorously as their Satori neighbors. Here is a picture of Zelda:

All of the pictures can be viewed large-size by clicking on the thumbnails at the bottom.
What will happen? Will Stubby lose her struggle to hold onto life? Will the new baby get Stubby's room? Will Dopey be just too dumb to live? Or will the new Satori baby move in with the Hashberries? Tune in next week and find out!
