    Free Weed From The Government!

I figured that would get some looks!...the headline means that we must free Cannabis from the clutches of the DEA and the Ghost of Anslinger. This is my first thread post, so be gentle.

I just wrote an E-mail to Michael Moore insisting that he document the BC3 Extradition hearing/trial/imprisonment. I am pasting in the letter so all can see what it said. I gently suggest that others email him as well. Pretend he is a congress person who may actually get the message through his handlers. Nothing is ever too much of a long shot. My only suggestion is that if you do write him, that you maintain a polite and mature attitude. As far as decriminalization goes, it is always much better to put a suit on than to wave a bong at somebody (unless they are a stoner).

    Dear Mr. Moore,

As an amateur filmmaker and seeker of truth, I respect your tenacity as an artist, journalist, and muckraker greatly. I also acknowledge the power you have to force subjects into the forefront of the American/World psyche.

I have not seen your latest film, Sicko (I cannot afford the ticket because I have no health insurance and I am saving up to get my teeth cleaned), but it got me thinking about another world health/human rights crisis that would be perfect as a topic for your next film: The continued criminalization of Marijuana, especially where medical Marijuana and compassionate access is concerned.

With the upcoming trial of the BC3 http://www.cannabisculture.com , the stage is set for your directorship. If you were not already aware, the United States Government is fighting to extradite three Canadian Cannabis activists (Marc Emery, Greg Williams and Michelle Rainy), for the crime of exporting Marijuana seeds, though the true crime--as it always is-- is activism.

The extradition hearing is scheduled to begin on November 5, 2007, so there is not much time to prepare to capture a lot of this on film as it happens. The BC3 face ten years to life in prison in the United States. Please be your usual self and do not let this extradition hoax end up as back page news. If they are extradited by the American strong arm, and subsequently imprisoned, I do not see any hope for the continuation of democracy...and I am usually quite optimistic. Please continue to help us maintain our constantly eroding freedom.

The educated Marijuana community knows that Marijuana is not a drug that causes youth to run wild, but is in fact a plant medicine capable of healing the nations in many ways. We, as activists, medical patients, and simple pot smokers fear that we may never have a voice as long as the public continues to view Marijuana users as deviant, unpatriotic, and criminal. While every segment of society has its bad apples, for some reason the good Cannabis apples (the overwhelming majority) are rarely paraded for the public eye to see!

Additionally, I offer my services in any way that might be necessary. (I would make the film myself, but I would never be able to rally forces in time, and nobody would ever see it--not the case with your films. Additionally, I have a medical Marijuana patient to take care of). I can carry a camera, or make sandwiches or help with pro-Marijuana propaganda, and there is a vast community chomping at the bit to come to your aid. I thank you for your time, consideration, and especially for your body of work.

    Sincerely,
    Tea Party
    (Cannabis.com forum handle)

P.S. I am posting this on Cannabis.com activist forum, suggesting and expecting that other Marijuana activists will follow suit by contacting you with their own letters...Sorry! I will continue to write my congresspeople, but you seem get things done, so I thought, "Why not?"

Just a short note is all it takes, a simple paragraph in an email. Use parts of mine if you want to. Five minutes tops...then post here that you have sent your message to Michael Moore so we can keep track.

You never know what will become of it. Small seeds become large flowers if given the right nutrients. Even if Michael Moore did not choose to make a documentary about Marijuana persecution/decriminalization/freedom, one of his staff might be inspired to some sort of related activism.

Writing e-mails is free, it's fun, and you can smoke while you do it!...and this thread needs to be full of, "Yes, I sent my email" posts so that this is more than a storm in a Tea Cup.:giggity:

With respect, this thread is for activists. If you believe in apathy rather than activism, kindly refrain from posting here. If you are not interested in helping the movement, there are plenty of other threads that are more suitable for joking/entertainment and one liners. Those who do not take the issue of decriminalization/Medical Marijuana seriously might want to ask themselves what they are doing here in this forum (especially in the Activism section). Of course it is each person's right to not take part in this letter writing campaign, but please do not cut it down at the ankles if it is not "your thing." It is one step forward or two steps backwards a lot of the time...meanwhile good people are going to prison. This is not a laughing matter.

It was a joke. Can't handle a joke? Why would you smoke weed? I am sick of politics but I was actually writting to him. I'd like to see a documentary by Moore about medical cannabis. I spread as much knowledge about cannabis as possible, and I have changed many peoples views. Please don't disrespect me like that ever again.

    Hey hey.
One of the most wonderful things about this site is the good humor of our membership! And who better to understand the importance of humor than someone who appreciates the dry wit of Michael Moore?
IMHO a good laugh and good works are not mutually exclusive. We're all on the same side here!

Sorry, Matt. I was frustrated that the first post would be poking fun. I was excited about the prospect. Apologies.

Agreed. I was just hoping the thread would have a little serious meat on its bones before getting goofed in jest or not. This is just what I wanted to avoid. A serious post gone mucky. Apologies.

Are you sure Michael Moore is the best person to be presenting this? Seems to me that this will rally the pro-pot troops, but won't win any converts amongst others, 'cause he'll be written off as "Hell, Micheal Moore--WTF did you expect?"

I do not think anything can rally the anti-pot troops 100% aside from getting them high so that they can see for themselves that pot is not an instant ticket to insanity. The pro-pot troops do need rallying however. Especially the ones that are to scared to be active (like me, for example, most of the time). I think the more anything is talked about in the media, the better, the more publicity the better. And I do believe there are a lot of people uneducated about marijuana that respect M. Moore's logic. I am sure he would paint every pot smoker as a cool-headed intellectual with much to give to the betterment of society, while painting every anti-pot crusader as an insane basket of uneducated nerves--which is fine with me. If a non-fiction film about the benefits of marijuana and the injustices that are carried out upon closet and medical users were playing in every major theater...it could do nothing but good. I am sure Ken Burns would make a much better film, but nobody would ever see it except nature nerds like me who watch PBS...but we need some sort of adult presence for marijuana education in the theaters and media. As of now, there is only the Hip Hop video and there is not much education in most of those.
