fluorescent wattage question

If im going to grow a few plants with a pretty long fluroescent light, (30-40 inches) how many watts do I need for them to grow pretty nice or should I ditch that idea and just go with a 400w HPS (im talking for veg growth, im thinking im going to get a 1000w MH for flowering and vent it real well. what do you think? help would be good.

I think you'd do better if you used MH for veg and HPS for flower... 400mh, 600hps

Oops! You're backwards!!!
You are correct on the ratios of veg watts to flower watts; however you want the HPS1000 for flower as BB suggested.
For veg, you have a choice between a smaller MH, or flourescents.
You were saying tube flouros, and those are very nice to veg under.
Two 4 foot shop light fixtures that EACH have 2 40-watt cool white bulbs in them, placed side by side, will do well for vegging. That's what I use actually. Keep them ~2 inches from the plant tips, and pinch the plants at 5 or 6 nodes to bush them out and take better advantage of the light.

alright thanks, i was just making sure fluros werent bad to grow with but thanks i'll use the fluros for veg and the 1000w hps for flowering
