Political Correctness
I couldn't agree more. One radio show host here speaks about this often, and calls it the Dictatorship of Political Correctness.
IMHO, I think all this stems from a relatively recent social phenomenon which works hand in glove with political correctness: the refusal to take responsibility for one's own actions, coupled with the American legal situation of being able to sue anyone anywhere for absolutely anything. People no longer take responsibility for any of their actions, and when they suffer the consequences, it's INEVITABLY someone else's fault. I.e.: fat people suing McDonald's (stop eating 2 Big Macs everyday, fatso), people suing tobacco companies for getting lung cancer (god damn it, since the cigarette was invented, people knew by instinct that they weren't good for you, I have read so many older texts written 50 and sometimes even 100 years ago where people complain about the ill-effects of smoking).
The list goes on and on, and the only way to stop this is to take responsibility for our actions, and to live with the consequences without blaming someone else for our own weaknesses.Peter: [writing letter] Dear MacGuyver, Enclosed is a rubber band, a paper clip, and a drinking straw.
