He's not an attorney. He's a Ph.D.-level clinical psychologist who owned a firm, Courtroom Sciences, that did psychological consulting for law firms and trials for many years before he met Oprah and became a media "darling."

He's no idiot, but he is a shameless self-promoter and he doesn't really approach psychology from anything other than a surface, TV-show angled approach, but I suppose that's what his job has morphed into. In this area of Texas, which is where he used to live before he moved to Beverly Hills, there are numerous people in the legal, academic and medical communities who've worked with him, which is not said to be an easy thing to do.

lmao.. if i was about to quit from under his employment i'd probably bring a car buffer and start shining his head and see how long he takes it before firing me.....

omg that would be hilarious... bring a lil carnuba wax, and a nice buffer pad on one of those rotary electrical buffers... and just start going to town, like you were actually polishing a car and counting in your head to see how many seconds/minutes he took it.

When this first aired, I remember seeing an article or story about it and I think it had an interview from the promoter. In it he said Dr. Phil knew what he was going to dress up like Phil and that he let him come out like that only to grandstand like Phil does and then kick him off to the joy of the crowd. He was absolutely right though, Dr. Phil often exploits people's problems for his gain.

The whole show has become like Jerry Springer this season and last. It's really sad. I gather it's the Springerized shows that grab the daytime ratings, which is too bad. Some of the practical advice he used to give about parenting and even marital interactions was perfectly valid, solid psychological information when he was first on. But I guess it wasn't dramatic enough.

I believe that both of them found ways to use other people to become rich.....only on oppisite sides of the spectrum, but both quite clever IMO.

well in all honesty, the people don't want actual heartfelt advice about relationships and parenting and all that...

they want lying, cheating, rape victims, and near death victims..

atleast that's what tv ratings show anyways...
