Its a common myth. I even know a guy whos doing a week of darkness right now. Its never been proven to improve anything to my knowledge though.

    Well DrDro,

The only thing you have to do is dry your harvest completely. Remember mold is your enemy. But what do I know?

Make sure to follow up with the proper drying methods so you can enjoy the work you just put into your harvest! I have heard many a story of people losing their entire harvest by not drying properly. Use a dehumidifier at 45-50% for at least a week.

The only thing like that I have heard of is this. Right before switching from veg stage to Flower statge have 24 hrs of complete darkness this will induce flowering faster. This info can be obtained in Jorge Cervantes book "Marijuana Horticulture the indoor/outdoor medical growers bible"
I know this doesnt answer your question but this is the only thing I have heard about 24 hrs of darkness.
