Bugs.
I am using a compost with cow crap ( Stinky put me on to it.). I keep getting gnats in the soil I was wondering what would be a good way to get them out of the soil. If there is some thing that I wouldn't have to run to a hydro store. The closest one is 90 miles away .... Please Help

I use those yellow sticky traps that are available at Lowe's, Home dePot, etc. They work pretty well.

I lay a couple on top of the pots - down where the gnats are. I had a bunch of those annoying little bastards. Since the sticky traps, I'll only see one occasionally. There are a couple other simple techniques for dealing with the little buggers. You should have a solution before the day is over.

Next time sterilize the manure and soil before planting. Put it on a flat pan and put in the oven at 400 degrees for 20 minutes to kill any insect eggs that are in the manure and soil. Won't harm the soil or the manure.

If they really are fungus gnats, your problem is that you have too much moisture somewhere. They breed in sodden medium.
There ARE ways to clean out bugs out of the soil... Google 'soil drench'.
Another way to go is set off 2 bug bombs 3-5 days apart to kill the exposed life stages of the pest. The second one kills anything that was still in egg form and was protected by the first one.
