    new to hydro

im new to the hydro scene after 2 ok grows in a soilless mix. Out of the 4 plants i had 18 inch tall and 2 1/2 oz. So i would like to do better with hydro. I would like to use a good 2 or 3 part nutes and maybe 1 additive. Im not great at mixing things so for me less is more to screw up. So if anyone has a idea on the best nutes and aditives to keep it simple and still grow big buds id be thankful. Also i am growing big bud from clones. I already started building a 2 plant system and here are some pics of what i have
    1-400 watt mh hps
1-10 gallon containers for the plants
1-18 gallon container for the rez
    2- 7 inch net pots
    1-150gph pump
1-areater-water pump to disolve air into the water
2- full circle sprayers for spraying at the net pots in the tote
2- drip emitters for above the pots
2- stakes for holding tubing and drip e.

I have had wonderful results using Fox Farm's Grow Big for veg and their Tiger Bloom for flower. No mixing, no nothing. Just follow the directions for the quanties, but maybe use just a bit less the first go around just to be safe. I am a big fan of these nutes. I know many people swear by the mixing 3 part method, but many also like Fox Farm.

You'll want at least one additive, and that is SuperThrive or Liquid Karma. ST is for root development and probably for some other stuff, and is a must in my book. Another one to add during veg could be Liquid Karma, but I use this more during bloom. If I could only get one though, I think it would be the Karma. Both will seem real expensive if you go to buy them, but a little of those goes a long way. Just get the small bottles at first, even though the big ones are a better value. Since you use so little, and the shelf life of nutes shouldn't be more than a couple of years, you are likely (as I was) to end up wasting a bunch. I think SuperThrive may last more than a couple years, not sure. Anyone? Buhler? ST only needs 2 or 3 drops per gallon to be very effective. LQ doesn't take much more.

I take it back. You don't actually need any addetives, but think about this: The smallest bottle of ST is about $7. Think how much weed $7 will get you, and consider you may earn back that money your first harvest. However, my 1st hydro grow was with one veg ingreadiant, one bloom (the ones I mentioned above), and some PH down. I had a great crop.

is this good or should it be tweeked a little? also im not sure where to put the drain back to the rez at? in the botom or up the side a inch so that a little water stays in the plant container at the bottom. im using lava rock for the medium so if anyone is using this is there anything i should know? thank you

Just make sure the nutes touch the roots a little. Probably not quite half way up the pots to start, then about an inch or so below the pot as the roots start growing out. The best thing you could do is get at least one air stone in there, and have the nute level about 3 inches below the bottom of the pots. That way bursting bubbles with spray liquid all over the roots, and they will get plenty of oxygen (the key).

I'm not familiar with those nutes so I don't know if they need tweaking.

All I know about lava rocks is that you need to wash them thouroghly before use, and also to not use them. You should consider clay pellets since they hold just the right amount of moisture. Less than rockwool, more than lava.

I put my drains on a side, as close as possible to the bottom.
