Do you "illegally" download music? Use Peerguardian

    Peerguardian [http://phoenixlabs.org/pg2/]

The Recording Industry Association of America has been suing people for downloading music online, and unless you live in Canada you might be at risk. While you can't be arrested for doing it, you can be sued. The RIAA pulls you IP address from a copyrighted song they download from you. Then when they get that ip address they contact a judge who gives them a subpoena to get your real ID from your internet provider.

Peer Guardian uses a list of blacklisted IP addresses to block almost all, if not all, of the RIAA computers trying to pull your IP address for a potential lawsuit.

    Also don't share your music.

(Mods, please let this stay in the front for awhile, I know it belongs in tech but if it stays here for awhile more people will see it.)

It sounds, then, that it's not illegal to download anything, just upload - as in distribute. Here in Canada it's all legal, I love it!

I used to be a fanatic music collector. I'd go broke buying all the CD's I love, but after a while I just realized there are too many bands I've been discovering and I couldn't possibly have the money to buy them all, let alone even a few of them. There's much more important things I have to save/spend my money on right now, so I wouldn't buy the music anyway, hence it makes no difference to music industry profits whether or not I listen to it. And still, if it's one of my beloved classics releasing a new album, like Iron Maiden or Motorhead, then I'm definately buying the cd and keeping my discography full.

I use BT. I download a lot. I don't let people upload from me(except rarer stuff), and I doubt the RIAA gives a fuck less about me, the artist, or anyone else. All they see is $$$.

Iam a singer songwriter, when people ask me if I have a cd I just give them one.
it makes me happy just to know that people like my music, buy money comes in
    handy tho.

I do kinda agree with you but some viruses are not actualy viruses but sub zeros, spooks, or sleepers, usualy virus protection never pics em up cause their not realy their however when, you have something in your computer to activate the spook then someone is already in your computer and they look for the object which activated the program. Bigger network = more choices.
on private trackers, you're forced to share music becuase keeping a ratio is a vital part about not getting banned. I didn't mean networks as in finding ones (like Gnutella), I meant something more decentralized or torrents, or even Usenet.

i mean just think about how many people download music, then think about how many actually get sued by the IRAA... you probably stand about the same chance as being struck by lightning.
That is only half-true. Getting caught is as simple as uploading 1 byte. However, the chances of getting sued are neatly nil, although it's still possible. While I've had numerous copyright infringement letters, no court dates or any official legal documents were set up. Also, it's up to your ISP to decide whether they drop you. Many ISPs will also cap your speeds if they notice you're upload too much. And, depending on where you live, you only have a few ISP choices.

They can barely stop it now even though everyone dosn't. The DEA is a joke. It's like they're trying to stop a waterfall with an umbrella.

actually no, programs are what you want to avoid.... it's by far easier to infect someone's comp througha downloaded program than any other form of download

i try not to mess with that shit too much... lol far too risky... since i don't use anti-spyware or anti-virus (i'm just really careful about what i do online... haven't had a problem in a good long while eihter)

CD quality not MP3, I also watch movies such as the new Jason Bourne movie, I dont fear lars or the judges or controlers in his pocket or if its the other way around they can come here Im waiting. The arts should be free, in the future if no one knows thier music cause not to many people whow bought the CD are still alive, their music will die. And then they can sue me then when I dont know who they are and dont give a fuk who they are.
