It should be helpful to smoke with a good friend. This should keep you grounded and bonded.

how to avoid "depersonalization" when smoking

I am told that this is when the patient continues to smoke as a means of escape. What are you escaping? In my case, I start to feel that way and it is because I sit alone in another building while trying to get stoned enough so that I can take my shots without barfing. I know I start to feel detached. I have taken the advice above and vaporize with a person with a similar problem. I also vaporize with an old friend when he is in town. After talking, I realized that I was staying away toc long because I was hung up about worrying about need to be high or be sick. So shorter sessions. Do something social in between. Do it with trusted friends. Now my problem is for illness. If yours is social, my advice may not apply to well. Good look and remember your personality is your personalily. A good trusted friend can tell you if he / she sees it in you.

your advice really hits the nail on the head. though the reasons may be different the outcome is the same. depersonalisation is just that lack of interaction with people on a personal level, so not the internet, not even the phone. the brain needs to reinforce connecitons about social situations and interactions. in males this is especially needed as our brains do not fully mature till we are 25. meaning that we have to reinforce and keep nuron pathways in the brain open. when they are not used the brain stops using them. dope seems to accelerate this is some people because when you are stoned often people spend alot of time within themselves listening to and talking with their inner dialogue, the id ego or super ego depending on the mood or character.
to cease this you ahve to get out, join a club, go to a bar, hang out with friends. change your smoking surroundings and the reasons to smoke. if you are getting high because there is nothing else ot do find something to do. if you are getting high to escape feelings you have, a situation you are in or because of something in your life. this will accelerate the feelings too.
there is only one way to make it better. get out, see more people, be personal.

    peace and progress

Depersonalization is recognized by many psychiatrists/psychologists as the feeling that one is detached from oneself, that you are not real somehow. Perception and reality feels different, as though something might not be quite right.

Not to go off on a tangent about "other psychotropic drugs", but I had this feeling after taking a very large dose of LSA (not LSD). If you know about Owsley, he sold LSA-containing seeds which he said would get you , "not high but weird". This reminds me of dissociative drugs. I felt like everything was dreamlike. The best thing I can recommend is that if you experience depersonalization to an uncomfortable degree, stop smoking. Cannabis sometimes is linked to the manifestation of schizophrenia and other psychotic disorders --but usually only if a person is predisposed before smoking... I think we can attribute this to the hallucinogenic properties of cannabis.

(sorry mods if that violates anything, i'm not trying to advocate other drug use).

I would be willing to bet that this "depersonalization" existed prior to getting stoned. Like the above post mentions, the OP probably is predispositioned to this condition and smoking just intensifies it.
