just like christians, i foudn out they're christian, they find out i'm not, and leave it at that, it's fine... once they start infringing on my beliefs by dropping 'facts' and bible quotes or trying to convert me, again i take it personally....
Well, I'm far from the hard-core animal rights nuts. Even though I feel strongly about my vegetarianism, I can definitely sense a lot of craziness in the animal rights community. I have no problem with experimenting on animals for science, or taking over animals' habitat for human needs, or eliminating invasive animal species like the Asian carp. I think it's okay to kill animals if it provides a good enough benefit for humans, but that's a judgment call. I personally don't think me filling my tummy is a big enough benefit to be justifiable if I have other options, but I can appreciate that most people don't agree with me on that.

I tried becoming a vegetarian once but its not as easy you start to miss all the foods most vegetarians started when they were small raised that way by their parent(s).
i personaly know of 2 FAT vegans... and one over weight vegiterian(he only eats veggies fruits tofu, and fish...

even though im not vegiterian... i do eat alot less meat then i used to... as my sister hits me everytime i eat meat... after a friend of mine told her to... so i do saport people who dont eat meat.... i tend to not eat meat infront of them... but i still eat mean when they are not around...

I understand the philosophy. Animals can feel pain, therefore it is immoral to kill them for human pleasure. An animals preference to live outweighs a humans preference to kill it.

Having said that, i am not a vegetarian because my taste buds prefer meat as opposed to vegetables. I personally do not kill animals, therefore i find it justifiable to eat them. I wouldn't want good food to go to waste when there are starving people in Africa and anywhere else in the world.

If God didn't mean us to eat meat then he would not have made it taste so good.

    Long live carnivores!!

all the posts were great and very informative on where you guys stand. I love my soy shakes and such, BUT i have to admit....that bite of steak and eggs i cooked for my hubby was to die for, lol. I grew up in south texas, where we had animals slaughtered for food. I've eaten deer, its a little to rich tasting, i cant like it, yuk. For the past few years i've been staying away from pork though. I do have so say that when i fill my diet with proteins from veggies, I feel a hell of a lot better.
Has anyone read the book 'Diet by Blood Type'? It talks about how we should have a certain diet by the type of blood we have....it goes back to our ancestryal roots....
google it...its a pretty good read

    Dude, venison is awesome.

With that said, I have an all out philosophy. I choose to eat healthy, but I'm not going to deprive myself of the pleasure of eating animals from time to time. It's simply the nature of animals to have their place on the food chain. While we are up there on the food chain, some carnivores would not be debating whether to eat a human. They would just do it.

i havent been reading the responses to thsi thread but...
i have been a vegetarian for about 2 and a half years. at first i ate fish too, but i have been slowly weaning myself off. i am a evgetarian for health, moral, and ecological reasons. i do it for my body, for my fellow animal friends and for the environment. it is very true that a lot of veg folks are admantly one-sided about the issue and often bigoted and self righteous. i like to think that i am not one of those veggies. while i get offended when someone serves me a turkey burger thinking that it is vegetarian, i dont get offended when other people eat meat around me. i defend my position with educated counterarguements, but i am not about to convert every passer-by that i see with a hot dog. vegetarians and vegans are typically the kinds of folks, like me for example, that feel very strongly about certain things and are ready to voice thier opinions. most veggies believe that NOBODY should eat meat, which is idealistic and close-minded. "eat what you please but please let me eat" is how i feel about the situation, tho i am always ready to fill an eager mind with the benefits of going veg.
vegetariansm/veganism is a LIFESTYLE choice. it means more than not eating meat/animal products. it is a commitment for life that requires big changes in some of the most important things in life. but it also entails things like a commitment to healthy eating (you can't always be veg and eat pizza and soda all the time) and a lot of times commitment to a more 'green' approach to one's lifestyle. just not eating meat, some may consider, is not complete vegetarianism.
