If an investigation is made out of this it won't be hard to find out who it is in the end. It's obvious it is from an officer since they have all of this guys details, also I'm sure your mum could make a complaint about this also since they invaded her privacy too. The point being that if the OP points out the woman who confronted him they can then find out who's wife she is therefore leading them to the officer who sent the letter.

I really hope the OP does something about this rather than stand by and let the cop have the last laugh. It's because of things like this that we as a people loose more freedoms because we allow authorities to walk all over us and then do nothing about it.
