Quoting Multiple Posts

Quoting multiple posts is quite simple, but there is still room for initial confusion. The easy way is pressing the QUOTE+ button. Initially, I didn't understand why it wasn't working, until I realized the mechanics of the QUOTE+ button.

You should think of the QUOTE+ button as an on/off switch. You press it once, and it turns on, you press it again and it will turn off. In the first screen shot, you'll see three(3) red circles, with numbers beside them. The numbers represent the order I've pressed the buttons in. I press the first two(2) buttons to â??turn onâ?� the posts I would like to quote, and then I press the regular QUOTE button afterwards. This gives us screenshot 2 (sorry for showing your spelling errors MadSativa). You can either quote directly underneath the person you're addressing, or just under both person's quotes, depending on your needs.

Something that's also great about this feature is that it retains the order of the QUOTE+ presses, so if you want to re-order the quotes, all you have to do it press them in the order you want them to appear, rather than cutting and pasting in your reply page.

Also, if you look closely at the second screenshot in the bottom, you'll notice that it says

â??You have selected 2 post(s) that are not part of this thread. Quote these posts as well, or deselect these posts.â?�

This means that I've hit the QUOTE+ button in another thread. From here, it's self explanatory, if you want the quotes from outside of the thread, then â??Quote these posts as wellâ?�. If not, then use the deselect option.

Breaking Up Long Posts For Multiple Quotes

Also a relatively simple process. In Screenshot 3, you'll see a before and after post by yours truly. Above the dotted line is what the original quote looks like. Below the dotted line is me, talking to myself, and showing how to use the quoting features.

NOTE: In the following text I will use {quote} and {/quote}. When you are actually using this process, retain use of the [square brackets] instead of using {curly ones}.

The easiest way to break up a post is just to use the copy and pasting function. Copy {quote=Person;2093482} including the brackets, and paste these at the beginning of each paragraph, or each point that you would like to separate. Copy the {/quote} including the brackets and put them at the end of each paragraph or point that you would like to separate. Now you can type in the blank spaces between their paragraphs.

Also, it's considered good form to delete any part of a post that you've quoted that you aren't responding to. It helps with clarity, and avoids confusion

May I add to this that if you want to respond to someone's post, erase all but the part you are responding to... I HATE seeing like 3 paragraph posts quoted, and all the quoter says at the bottom is something stupid like "I agree" or "good post"... wtf!

Great!, thanks for that maybe this should be made a sticky in the feedback and suggestions section would definately be a lot easier to explain to people by just giving them this link good work hardcore newbie! +rep .

Good idea. It's done.

I was also going to show the oldschool way of doing it before the QUOTE+ buttons were made (this was from way back) which involved opening a second browser and quoting the things you want in the second browser, copying and pasting things into the first browser's reply. it gives you a good handle and understanding on the way everything works, but it's excessive for most purposes, and very clunky and outdated.

Uh oh! I'm clunky and outdated I guess.. I hit QUOTE, highlight the quote that pops up, hit BACK, find the next bit I want to quote, hit QUOTE on that one, and then paste the original quote in that window as well. If I want to add ANOTHER quote, I highlight the whole mess and repeat.

And then of course I go through and delete all teh irrelevant bits.

I used to do it until a few days ago when I actually tried figuring out the QUOTE+ buttons. It's all good
