Seeds Question

Hi,

I stumbled upon this forum looking up info on growing. I am a newbie when it comes to growing but I have a small question. Is there any way to tell what strain just from a seed. I am assuming not but I figured I would ask. Also what are some useful tips someone can give that first comes to mind when talking about growing. I looked through all the helpful stuff in the growing section and so forth I just don't want to miss anything important.
