Do you believe in ghosts?

I was just wondering, has anyone ever seen a ghost? And for the vast majority of us that have never seen a ghost, do you believe in ghosts?
I think that ghost can be as real as we want them to be. I mean, for a believer, anything (like a door that closes by itself, or an object that falls to the floor for no apparent reason) can be a sign. For a non-believer, everything has a logical/scientific/natural explanation.

i have never encounter an ghost. but i have a weird feeling about them. but i do not tend to believe those that claim that they had encounters with them.

I haven't seen a ghost, but I have a friend who heard one.

Her grandpa had died years ago, and her grandma was dying of cancer. One day she told my friend that she wasn't afraid of dying, because it meant she would be with her husband again. A week later she died.

The night after the funeral, my friend woke up and heard music playing on the floor above her. She went to look, but there was nobody there, and none of the CD players were turned on, but the music was still playing. She thinks her grandma and grandpa were finally dancing together again.

Ah goodness, I'm crying now. That's always such a beautiful story to me.

Oh, same friend used an Ouija board with some friends, didn't believe it, asked the "spirit" or whatever to do something. It turned the TV on. The TV didn't have a remote.

My mother died when I was nine. I couldn't understand what it meant. She came back to me in a dream to tell me how everything was now. After that, I understood.

Nope. Extraordinary claims require extraordinary evidence.

Everything does have a logical explanation. Logic determines everything that happens everywhere. That's how the universe works. Two plus two cannot ever equal five. An existent object cannot also be a non-existent object. Are you saying that things have non-logical explanations, that logic does not apply to everything in the universe?

There is such a thing as objective reality. When two people disagree about some aspect of objective reality, at least one of them must be wrong. Just believing in something does not make your belief a valid interpretation of reality. If one person says the earth is round, and one person says the earth is flat (some people still do actually), they will both have their own interpretations of the evidence. The flat earther will say satellite pictures are forgeries cooked up by a government conspiracy. The round earther will say the satellite pictures are real. Does that mean they're both somehow right, because they're both set in their beliefs and they can both reconcile any new fact to fit their pre-existing beliefs?

No, of course it doesn't. The earth is round, no matter how many people believe or have believed or will believe otherwise. Similarly, either ghosts do exist or they do not exist. And until I see some compelling reason to believe in ghosts, my brain simply will not be able to accept that fact as true. I am incapable of believing in things which I don't have a good reason to believe in.

I used to believe in ghosts, when I was little, because it was a comforting belief to think that the human mind could exist forever in some form. But as I matured and acquired more and more experience with the world, I realized that reality does not necessarily conform to my desires. Nothing in the universe lasts forever. Everything is temporary, including me and you. We have the choice between accepting that or giving into fantasy. I'm one of those people who would rather know the truth, no matter how cold it may be, than believe a comforting falsehood.

Logic isn't fun. Imagination is fun. You can assume that everything is rational and can be backed up by science, or you can live a little and let your mind believe in hidden wonders of the world - what's the harm in that?
