Masonry is not a religion, however most all of its degree work and ritual is directly from the Bible. Yes there is a lot of symbolism. They cannot recruit new members, you have to ask a mason to become one. Shriners are Masons also, as well as dozens of other Masonic affiliated organizations, like Eastern Star, Rainbow for Girls, Jobs Daughters, DeMolay, etc.

There is an incredable amount of information about the Masons and Masonic Orders on the 'net. Masonry itself is not secret, there are only a few signs, words, and tokens that are held secret.
