I remember I made a thread about this a looonnggg time ago. I dunno what conclusion we came up with as a group though. I "lurk" on some boards from time to time to get the info I need. I actually lurked on this board for a month or two before signing up.

well some people don't want to go through all the hassle of signing up and doing all that stuff. They probably just want the info and don't want to talk. But yeah, when you have 9 times more guest then members on the site at a time that's a lot of potential members that could be on the boards.
