1gal pots to waterfarm transplant / pot inside waterfarm

I've got 6 plants in a drip system, 2 of them are 34 days old and 4 of them are around 3 1/2 weeks old. I put them on a 12/12 light cycle monday so I can find and get rid of males. I plan on getting an Ikea free standing wardrobe using a 250 HPS and putting two plants in while continuing to veg the rest of the females (if there are more than 2 females).

My issue is; the roots on both of my 34 day old plants (indicas) have out grown their 1 gal container. I'm thinking about using the GH waterfarm because I dont think there would be space for anything other than these self contained type pods and I'm hoping to be able to just cut a good bit of the plastic out of the bottom of the 1 gal so the roots can grow through and mmaybe the sides? does this sound like an reasonable idea / Bad idea?

Sounds good to me. This is kind of along the lines of the double potting technique. With double potting (soil) when the roots out grow the container, you just cut out the bottom, or make big holes. Then you would place another pot under it to allow the root system to continue growing larger. Since we know that the roots delegate the size of the actual plant above ground, this technique makes perfect since for the grower who is trying to maximize. I think cutting most of the plastic away from the bottom would be enough to allow the roots to continue growing past the size of the container. After you cut the holes in the bottom, what are you going to be putting the roots and 1 gal container into? (i.e. the 2nd pot)

Well I think I'm going to put it into a waterfarm (3 gal bucket inside 5 gal rez) much like the one in the other thread me and you have both commented in. unless someone has another solution, to me it seem the waterfarm is the only bucket like system

To be honest they both look like they would work for what your trying to do. I think the roots would have no trouble at all growing down through the bottoms of the 1 gal and into the grow rocks. I have never used the water farm before, so i cannot comment on how it works. (although it seems very similar to a regular DWC bucket only with a ring for the drip) But I have done DWC and know it works well, and fast for root growth. So just try not to cut any roots badly and it should be a painless procedure!! Good luck, laterz..

don't worry about cutting containers. I just switched to the waterfarm with res. last week and I kept my plants in their square containers. I just placed them in the waterfarm, added the hydrotron around and with in less than a week, I already have roots coming down thru the 2 gall. container.
