Sigh...I have a tendency to get on a soapbox about this...

[rant] The whole western "sex hangup" traces its roots to Judeo-Christian ideology of sex as "original sin": that sex was a reliving of the Fall of Adam and to be born of the sex act was your first strike against you in this world. From this, sex was something shameful and only to be engaged in when absolutely neccesary to propagate the species. Same sex relations were sinful in that they were pointless, in the sense of propogation (note that this implies masturbation and post-menopausal sex are ALSO "wrong," but currently noone is up in arms about that).

We've moved away from that a bit, but still sex is viewed a base instinct and sexual love is widely perceived as inferior to romantic/intellectual love, rather than being complementary to each other.

I generally try not to use "make love" as euphamism for fucking: a couple usually have a good idea of the presence or lack therof of love in a relationship; to me, the term implies a discomfort with the concept. P.J. O'Rourke, in his hippie days, did a funny interveiw with an "Adult":
P.J. "So, do you fuck?"
Adult: "we engage in sexual intercourse."
P.J. "So you talk about fucking?"

The thing that frosts me is that there is a "neo-prudist" element to feminism (yes I know it's not universal) that pushes hard against things such as porn. That's a shame in that, frankly, they could probably do a lot to improve porn. The whole "lie there, moan occasionally, and wait for your facial" bit is tiresome, IMO, and it'd be a treat to see an aggressive, slightly angry, yet feminine sexuality portrayed. Plus an end to the whole needing to see a sexually adventurous woman as "dirty": to me, that just says you delight in what moralizers detest, but you haven't changed the paradigm one bit.
