New grower - what should I get?
I'm moving away from home in a few weeks and I want to start growing - I'm trying to save some money, have something practical to learn and occupy my time, and maybe be able to help out a few friends who could use it for medical reasons, as well as stave off my S.A.D. during the winter. I'm totally new to growing (I've done a lot of research and a bit of non-ganja gardening before) and I knew that my fellow cannabis.com-ers would be able to help me out!
I'm using a Rubbermaid grow box. I'm not sure what the size in gallons is, but when completed it'll be approximately 20"x13"x32" (LxWxH), coated with mylar, with the lighting being an anti-S.A.D. lamp (10,000 lux) I got for Christmas last year on a 12/12 cycle. This light has an anti-UV filter of 99.3% - will that affect my growing at all? I'm only going to have a couple of plants (probably a maximum of three), all LSTed to hell so that I get the most bang for the least space.
What I'd really like to know is what kind of strain I should start off with, taking the fact that I'm a beginner into consideration. The weed is going to be straight-up used in bong hits, so a harsher smoke is okay. I'd like to have something with high potency, but also durable, and a quick grower would be optimal. The likelihood of such a holy trinity all being present in one strain probably isn't great, so I'd like to have everyone's opinion on what I should start with - oh, and where I should get it from. I've asked a few friends if they had any seeds, and apparently you can't find them in the weed that's available around here anymore. :wtf: I had found one, but I accidentally cracked it when I was picking it out of my bud.
Anyhow, thanks if you bothered to read all this, and thanks a lot if you have any advice! :jointsmile:LuckyG Reviewed by LuckyG on . New grower - what should I get? Oh, I almost forgot, I'm more into active highs than couchlock highs, so please take that into account too.

Northern Lights, Skunk#1, Afghan (but that's a little couchy), Papaya.
Look all of these up and see what looks good to you- they are all pretty easy to grow.

Thanks for the suggestions Stinky. I poked around a bit and I think I'll probably end up going with Northern Lights x Big Bud - it has everything I'm looking for.

take it slow and START first and foremost with safety and keeping things on the down low; everything else can come later and you'll learn as you go; you shouldn't worry about anything until everything is secure, and of course you should pick a place that you can keep things safe; if you can get a med cert. than do so

'Northern Lights' is an excellent choice ... easy to grow, forgiving, POTENT, very good yield, very little smell, stays fairly short ... most everybody has a version of it ...

seedboutique seels a serviceable NL for cheap.
It stays relatively short compared to other strains.
% m/f won't vary by seedbank. You should get a little over 50% female from any seed source.
Herms are a different story.
