Like an ELECRICITY generator, or a CO2 gen?
CO2 generators run off LP are common, although I would personally go with tank CO2 being even safer.
Electric generators, I don't have any advice to offer there. Generally, if you are running 1000 w per bedroom of your house, or less, you have no need for a supplemental source of power.

FORGET IT ... simple, plain answer
... it is horribly expensive to run a generator, NOISE, carbon monoxide, $$$$$$$, HEAT, ... not even an option ... I have experience with generators, the MOST inefficient method of making electricity ... move to a windy mountain, and buy yourself a wind turbine ...

cool, they didn't used to have any 'cheap' setups out there, prices are finally coming down ... and, it's a Federal Law, if you produce more electricity than you use, your local electrical company has to purchase it from you at their current customer rates ... :smokin:

Yup, my dad's friend runs a few tiny hydro generators and a big bank of solar panels. It works out well for him.
FYI for those of you considering a generator, it is more efficient to run back into the grid rather than fucking around with batteries and all that crap. And because of that law, if you generate in the day, and consume at night (when rates are lower), you are BUTTAH.
