Do you mean grow in a fishtank as in use a fishtank like a pot? Or do you mean use it for hydroponics? Either way, I would advise against it, as you are going to have to block light from getting to the roots, and either way you are talking about would probably allow a good amount of lights to get to the roots. I dont know, maybe someone has done this and can contribute to the project, but I just think there would be too much light getting to the roots. If I were you, I would grow in like an old dresser or wardrobe (thats what I did my first grow, which just finished) and set up a neat fish tank to look at after you smoke your homegrown :jointsmile:

Not a good idea. Save your fishtank to make a cloner.
Grow in REAL pots. Black plastic, no drip tray built in, lots of drainage.
If fishtanks were good planters, you'd see them for sale at the garden store.

Last year, on my first attempt growing, I had two seedlings. One was doing great, and had new nodes practically every day, but the other was stunted. It wouldn't finish making it's second set of real leaves, and stayed that way for two weeks, otherwise appearing green and healthy. I didn't have any sort of patience back then, so as an experiment, I planted it in my aquarium, along with the other water plants that were growing/thriving. It actually stretched considerably, for about a week, before it "disolved".

Horror business - do you mean you planted it underwater in an aquarium? If so, :thumbsup: for a cool experiment! If this is the case, I hope you got some pictures of that ha!

Yeah man, that's what I did. Unfortunately I don't have any pictures, but perhaps someone else can try this experiment on an extra seedling they have.
Like I said, for about a week, the stem was stretching considerably. I guess to get towards the light. The water plants I had were thriving, under the small aquarium lights, but it just wasn't enough for the seedling I guess. After about a week, the plant just started to disolve into the water. Perhaps if I had better lights, it might have actually worked for a while.

I will give that a go very soon in my 37Gal tank. it is also a planted aquarium. I have enough lighting to cause instant algae problems if at full intensity. also a side note.. healthy seeds when dropped into a healthy aquarium float, This has given me almost 100% success in germ. half the seed stays above water and my water is O2 saturated from my living plants. also I believe there are certain hormones in the water created by fish and natural bacteria. I should note that all the seedlings I have started this way have always grown very fast and full.
Also by hanging my clone's in the o2 saturated water, I also get almost 100% success from this method. It is amazing to watch roots form, though they wont get large until you bury them in darkness.

Thats funny, when I first started playing with bagseed I would soak the seeds in water and I did the opposite... whatever floated I tossed as immature and not viable, I only grew what sunk to the bottom. :P

Interesting?? How did your sunk seeds germ?? My research tells me that lower in the tank contains much less O2 than surface water.
Also how did they grow once transplanted? I let my seeds sit in 80 Degree water for 2 days, by then I had about 1/2" root. My aquarium lights are dimmed for those 2 days(16/8 Cycle). I then drop in soil and Bam!!
My planned experiment will involve a clone (rerooted in aquarium) then i will fill a small pot with "eco-complete" substrate(contains minerals). Turn lights to full intensity(10,000 Lumens). I will slowly submerse the clone completly(leaving the grow tip above water at first). I may co back to CO2 sup. I'll post pics of it under water.
