South African Durban Poison x Skunk #1
I recently received a few orders from seedboutique and the freebies were South African Durban Poison x Skunk #1. On a few other boards i have heard only bad things about this strain. Mostly everyone says they are hard to germ there was only guy if i remember correctly that actually got it going and harvested it. He said it was a really good high and taste but im just wondering should i toss them out or give it a shot, also just want to hear if anyone has had these actually work for them!

well, I definitely wouldn't 'toss them out', unless I was 'tossing' them into potting soil

Over the weekend i tried to germ 5 and out of the 5 one popped while i had it in some water. I then moved them into a wet paper towel and none popped from their and the one that had already popped in the water made no progress. I read on another forum that while germing these seeds they should be at a higher temp than most seeds. I dont know but my entertainment systems produces alot of heat and they still didnt pop. I'll try the other 5 with not so much heat and see if this helps.

put the 'popped' seeds directly into your soil from now on (once it emerges from the shell, it is very susceptible to 'damp-off' from being too wet, too long) ... it is not a good idea to let the taproot extend more than 1/8" or so, from the shell ... I know some growers will let that taproot grow much longer, but they are asking for trouble ... the taproot is very fragile, and doesn't like light, either ... they do like to be warm while germinating, but 80-85 degrees F, is warm enough, more is too hot ... :smokin:

2 more are cracked open but no taproot has appeared. The one that had popped in the water had a taproot appear but it is very little i was going to take a pic of it but i planted it after reading your post.

I really would like to grow one of these out since i've only read one post of someone actually growing these out and he only had 2 to germ out of 10 and one ended up being male so he had 1 female and he likes it alot.If they made an AK99 flavored starburst, it would be everyoneâ??s favorite, I promise you that!!! -Sunnyside:jointsmile:

I "think" it was crossed with skunk#1 to reduce the flowering time as most sativas do. Durban poison has a 10 week flowering time according to the website and is sometimes crossed with skunk to get an early finisher. Gotta love thar skunk #1 though that stinks!
