well u fill it with water then u put your finger on the carb this allowes u to fill the chamber with smoke then when the chamber is full u take your finger off the carb and inhale the water acts as a filter making a smoother hit and because u use a bowl for the weed u save more weed than a joint or blunt

haha therw has been this exact thread like 5 times in the past 6 months or soo. Night wolf got it but left out the part of filtration so I ll try to elaborate. bong consists of a chamger (tube) which you fill with water and a steam connected to a bowl dips in in this chamber where as the steamis under water quite a bit. When you pull or suck the air out of the main chamber with the water vacume occurs and pulls the smoke down the steam through the water and up the chamber to your mouth. what this does is cool and filter toxins from the smoke. This is very basic I recomend Glass on glass bongs with a pull carb, and multiple difusers or percolators, all of this improves your smoking experiance.imp:

1. Fill the chamber of the bong with water.(Don't put too much in.)
2. Pack the bowl with some bud.
3. Light the bud.
4. Inhale slow, so you can milk the bong.
5. When the bowl starts to turn into ash, snap it, meaning suck the bowl in so it makes a "snap" noise.
6. Pull out the bowl/stem to clear the bong. (Most bongs don't use carbs if its glass)
7. Enjoy the high, and take another rip.

Ok so a bong has a neck (the skinny part) and the chamber (usually round) where the water is kept. close to the top of the chamber is a hole called the carb and near it should be the bowl which goes into the chamber via a stem. Some bongs can have either a carb or a detachable bowl.
ok so u fill it up w/ water at least and inch below where the stem meets the chamber. now u put our mouth on the bong and ur finger over the carb and light the bowl and suck in and if u got a good bong, the smoke will fill it up until it condenses into a milky white smoke. now u let ur finger off the carb (or pull out the bowl if ther's no carb) and inhale the smoke.
