T12tubes are the cheapest, as are the mounts to get them set up. I work at home depot. for a shoplight, that holds 2 T12 lights, its 8.69, and plugs into a wall outlet, or timer. the bulbs are around 9 bucks each. the T12's come in a few wattages, from 32-40 which is what the shoplight can handle.

Khronik if you buy the t8 ballasts on ebay express you can get 10 for $30. Then all you have to do is swap the t12 ballast in your old fixture with your new t8 ballast there same size.

The T number mainly denotes how wide the tubes are, in eighths of an inch. T8 = 8/8 = 1 inch in diameter. T12 = 1.5 inches. The brightest ones are actually T5 (5/8 of an inch) though, because you can cram them really close together for more total light.

yeah. personally i use T12s just because they're cheap, i have the lights already, and the amount of light they emit is adequate. The only reason T5s are better is that you can fit more of them over your plants for more total light. They are a bit more efficient as well, but the difference isn't that great.

I second the use of T12 also ... when I was using fluorescent tubes, I did the math, and just didn't see the 'lumens per dollar' by going to the more expensive T5 ... maybe prices are better these days, I don't keep up with it ... you can do a lot of comparison shopping here: Light bulbs, Rope Lights, Halogen and Fluorescent bulb - 1000-Bulbs - The Light Bulb Superstore
by clicking on the details buttons, etc., you can learn quite a bit ...

Those aren't the bulbs you want. The $9 bulbs are aquarium/plant lights, which are actually not as good for vegging cannabis as the cheap $3-4/bulb 'cool white' t-12s.
