When you have a head trauma, and your brain is bleeding, your hippocampus releases 26x (from what I've read) the amount of endogenous cannabinoids in order to stop the bleeding.

We can activate our cannabinoid receptors (which just happen to be one of the most prevalent in our nervous system), but, only at low levels. Meanwhile, a plant, that grows just like us (sort of), can activate them, instantly. It intoxicates us, but unlike any other intoxicant.
