I've had a tooth cut out. All I got was Novocaine, but I got plenty of it. I didn't feel the actual cut. I had plenty of pain pills, but if I remember right the slice was sore for a while. Maybe even a week or so. Quite frankly it felt like someone cut my gum, and it was tender. The stitches they put in dissolved, so there was no 2nd appoinment. It wasn't one of my favorite experiences, I can tell you that.

Tell him to not smoke for a few days because of dry socket. It's when you suck the little gelatinous bloody-wound-thing out of it's hole. (sounds gross huh?) It shouldn't be a problem if he doesn't smoke. If he must have some ganj, then eating it in a soup works well. That's what I did when I had all four of my wisdom teeth pulled. Hope that helps

The mouth heals really fast, so he should be alright in about a week or so. Just keep it clean and don't eat anything stupid like spicy or acidic foods. Or cacti.
I'd also recommend that he stay away from being knocked out. I had two wisdom teeth removed a while back - one pulled, one drilled/cut out - and they only used numbing. The whole procedure took about ten minutes and saved me three hundred dollars.

bnurnt toast: that is why the rest of us are fucked and in pain.... you can get nasty blood infections from dental work and heart infections, endocarditis and septicemia and such... so make sure he takes those anti-biotics. afterwards....
